Why does a roof-terminated vent clog faster than a sidewall one?

Because the lint never gets a short trip. Two-story subdivision homes here run 20 to 35 feet of duct through the attic to a roof cap. The attic bakes all afternoon, then cools overnight. Humid dryer exhaust condenses on that metal. Wet lint stops being fluff and becomes paste. It cements to elbows where the run jogs around a truss. A shop vac at the dryer does nothing to that.

The cap itself is the second problem. Many roof caps carry a screen the manufacturer never intended for lint. Birds and wasps build under the hood. We pull the cap, clear the throat, and check that the flapper still swings free.

Cleaning is done from both ends. A rotary brush is fed up the run on flexible rods while the duct is under suction. Then airflow gets measured at the termination, not guessed at. If the reading stays poor after brushing, the duct is damaged or crushed. It may be disconnected in the attic. We say so.

We also look behind the dryer. Crushed foil in a tight closet undoes everything upstream. Rigid metal and a short, smooth transition hose is the fix.
